Larian Studios Reveal a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The anticipation surrounding the recent awards show has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a fresh Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio warned that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words suggests that the team could be building a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. For now, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it pioneered the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, branching plots, and flexible progression—traits that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities that are viable with a distinct build with a unique decision path.

The series is also famously flexible, enabling players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be solved in multiple ways, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.

The Journey Continues

It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can anticipate another adventure in this legendary franchise.
